2. How do I bail out inmates?
The Beatty Jail accepts cash bail or surety from bail bondsmen at 426 “C” Avenue South, Beatty, NV 89003. They are open 24/7. For more information, see our article on how to bail out an inmate at the Beatty Jail.
3. Where is the Beatty Courthouse?
Beatty Justice Court is located at 426 “C” Avenue South, Beatty, NV 89003. The phone number is (775) 553-2951. And the hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Beatty Justice Court has jurisdiction over all misdemeanor and felony matters prosecuted within the town limits. But note that felony cases which remain unresolved by the case’s preliminary hearing stage will be “bound over” (which means transferred) to Nye County’s Fifth Judicial District Court in Tonopah, Nevada.
4. Where is the police station?
Nye County Sheriff’s Central Area Command is located at 426 C Avenue, Beatty, NV 89003 (in the same facility as the jail and justice court). The phone number is (775) 553-2345.
Note that law enforcement officers with the Nevada Highway Patrol may cite or arrest drivers on the US 95.
5. Who is the prosecutor?
The Nye County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes criminal- as well as traffic cases in Beatty, Nevada. There D.A. does not have an office in Beatty. Instead, it has offices at:
1520 E. Basin Avenue
Pahrump, NV 89041
(775) 751-7080
and
101 Radar Road
Tonopah, NV 89049
(775) 482-8166
6. What are common Beatty crimes?
Due to being near the US 95 and Death Valley, Beatty Justice court hears several DUI and speeding (NRS 484B.600) matters. Other common cases involve battery (NRS 200.481), drug offenses, and battery domestic violence (NRS 200.485).
7. Can charges get dismissed?
Depending on the case, the D.A. may be amenable to reducing or even dismissing criminal charges – especially if the defendant’s attorney can show prosecutors that there is a reasonable doubt as to guilt. First-time offenders in low-level cases are the most likely to get their cases dismissed, usually in exchange for a fine or community service.
8. Do I need an attorney?
There are three reasons why all criminal defendants should hire their own attorney if at all possible:
- Defendants with private counsel usually never have to appear in court as long as their attorney appears in their place;
- Lawyers have the training and experience to persuade prosecutors to lessen or drop criminal charges; and
- Defendants with their own attorney are much more likely to get favorable plea deals than defendants with no attorney or who rely on a public defender.
