You can order a copy of your three-year or 10-year Nevada driving record from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles for a $7 fee. Automobile insurance companies typically look back three to five years when calculating insurance rates.
You should periodically order your driving record (also called a driving record printout) to check it for accuracy. Otherwise, you risk insurance companies overcharging you or the DMV suspending your license based on false data. An inaccurate record could also keep you from being hired for a job that requires frequent driving.
What do Nevada driving records show?
Your Nevada driving history shows
- your past Nevada traffic ticket citations for moving violations (including DUIs) and non-moving violations
- your demerit points
- car accidents you were in
- your out-of-state traffic offense convictions
- if you had and/or currently have a driver’s license suspension or revocation
Note that your driving record printout also includes your name, birth date, and address.

The fee for non-certified Nevada driving records is $7. Certified copies (available only through the mail) cost $11.
Note that people who obtain records at self-service kiosks pay an extra $1 processing fee.
What if my driving record has a mistake?
If your driving record displays inaccurate traffic violations or other errors, call the Nevada DMV for instructions at:
(702) 486-4368 – Las Vegas Area
(775) 684-4590 – Reno/Sparks/Carson City
(877) 368-7828 – Rural Nevada
Can I improve my driving record?
In Nevada, demerit points disappear after 12 months without you having to do anything. Plus each year, the Nevada DMV allows you to remove three demerit points early by completing a traffic safety course with a Nevada DMV-certified traffic school; however, no points will be removed if you are taking the course as part of a plea deal.
The DMV will suspend your license if you accrue 12 points in 12 months, so it is always a good idea to remove demerit points early to reduce the chance of getting a suspension.
How do I check the status of my Nevada driver’s license?
You can call the Nevada DMV at (702) 486-4368 to check on your license status. Or log in to your DMV account.
How do I get a clearance letter from the Nevada DMV?
Contact the Nevada DMV at (702) 486-4368 for instructions on your particular case. Once you pay your reinstatement fee, the DMV can usually mail or fax you your clearance letter.
Note that clearance letters do not reinstate driver’s licenses. They simply clear your Nevada driving status to allow you to obtain a driver’s license in another state.
Can other states access my driving record?
Yes. Other states have access to your Nevada driving record.
