What if the accident report is wrong?
Do not worry. Should your case go to trial in Nevada, the accident report cannot come in as evidence other than to prove such details as the date and time of the crash and the name of the responding police officers.1 And your attorney will present the correct information when negotiating with the insurance companies.
Do I need to file an accident report after a crash?
If you get into a collision in Nevada and police arrive at the scene, the police will file the accident report. But if the police do not show up, then you need to file an accident report within 10 days of the crash if either:
- someone sustained bodily injury or died; or
- there was at least $750 of property damage.2
You can find the Nevada DMV accident report form here. You will need to enter the following information:
- Names of people involved and their address, birthday, and driver’s license number
- The license plate number, year and make, and VIN of vehicles involved
- Date/time/location of collision
- A description of the collision
- A description of any non-vehicle property damage
- Your signature
In addition, you must attach proof of your insurance, repair estimates, and a doctor’s statement for every victim who sustained bodily injury.
Finally, the report and attachments must be mailed to 555 Wright Way, Carson City, Nevada 89711.
(If you hit an unattended vehicle or other unattended property and cause any property damage, you must call the police right away. If you are incapable due to the crash, then an occupant of your car should contact the police.)3
